Amantadine

Can you explain what amantadine is supposed help? Hope all have had a wonderful Christmas and that 2010 is a better year. Fay

amantadine works by helping with parkinson disease side effects. These are tremors, involuntary movements, and muscle tone. The majority of pd patients use it for involuntary movements (dyskensia).
amantadine helps balance out 2 main chemicals in the brain used for movement, these are dopamine and acetylcholine. The actual mechinism is unknown, but it is believed that amantadine helps block the uptake of acetylcholine causing a greater amount of the chemical to be used to control muscle movement.
