Hi, everyone. I've been lurking here for quite some while and finally have a question for Mark. Today my dentist told me that I have a cavity that needs filling. I mentioned to him that I,m on Azilect which does not interact well with local anasthesia. He had never heard of Azalect and told me he will try to reach my neurologist and ask him about using Carbocaine instead of the usual local. Mark, do you know anything about Carbocaine? Is it safe to use with Azilect? Keep up your great work at thiw forum!

Shell - My MDS rx'ed a Lidocaine patch along with my Azilect. I haven't had any bad effects, but I don't use the patches often. I have a dental appt in January, so I'm curious as well which locals are okay with Azilect.

The insert that comes with Azilect states that locals containing some kind of vasoconstrictors (not sure what that is) should not be used. They suggest that the Azilect not be taken for atleast 14 days prior to elective surgery.
I was worried about going on Azilect. Now I'm worried about discontinuing it.
Still waiting for an answer from my neuro.

shell, Sorry for the delay. Azilect and plain carbocaine are fine. A product that has carbocaine and neo-cobefin should not be used with azilect. The neo-cobefin is a vasoconstrictor that interacts with the azilect. Hope this helps. Best of health, Mark

That takes a load of my mind. I hope my dentist knows his stuff. Carbocaine was his suggestion although when I mentioned Azilect it was new to him.Just curious what do vasoconstrictors constrict? (And you don't have to apologize for any delays. Managing this forum must take up lots of time!) Shell

Hello to all... I seem to be OK.
It's been atleast an hour after my dental visit.
My dentist decided to use Prilocaine for my local instead of Carbocaine. The Prilocaine had no epineherine either.
I think he went with Prilocaine because it's longer lasting. Thank you all for the feedback!
