Hey Mark! I hope you are well- it's been a while since I posted last. Sorry to bombard you with 101 questions- lol! I read that requip can cause dyskinesias between doses of 7-24 mg/day- and in another location that dyskinesias from anitparkinson medications don't appear for 2-10 years after taking the med. I also read that med dyskinesias and dystonia are common with YOPD patients (I'm 37). I'm taking Requip 9 mg/day (3x3) and just started this dose in early June. I began having jerking in my left-shoulder about mid-way between my lunch/nighttime doses (peak?) in mid-July. Doc started me on Artane (ugh- not a good med for me and am only doing 1 mg at bedtime now) and since then I'm either jerking or cramping up something fierce. It seems to happen couple hours after taking the dose- and sadly lasting pretty much to the next dose. Is this diphasic dyskinesia or DID? Does dystonia accompany it frequently? Is this too soon to be experiencing dyskinesia? Does it depend on the medication, Requip vs Ldopa? Do you know if length of time with condition is a factor also (by my calculations my symptoms started at least 5 yrs ago, maybe more)? Thanks for any input you could share with me! ((hugs)) Connie (yes, still undiagnosed but being treated- finally!)

Hey Mark- never mind. Doc wants to try me with extended release and we're ditching the Artane and going to try baclofen for the cramps. Now to read if anyone's posted on the extended release... hmm.... Thanks ((hugs)) Connie

sorry for the delay in my answer. It is good to hear from you also. I will tell you that I have heard good things from the requip xl. I am also glad to see that the dr. Is trying bablofen. At the Atlanta conference when I spoke of baclofen, it amazed me that very few people have taken or even heard of it. It is a great medication for the muscle issues of pd.Keep in touch. Best of health, Mark

Mark Do you think that Baclofen is a better choice for dystonia than Levodopa/Carbidopa(Sinemet). My MDS has not suggested using it for the dystonia. It would make more sense to try other meds before using the Sinemet. I'd appreciate any other suggestions as well. As many of you know trying to deal with severe dystonia is agonizing. I don't understand why this symptom of P.D. is not addressed more. It must be a small percentage of PWP who are dealing with it or it might get a lot more attention.

Mark, When you mention Baclofen for PD muscle pain what comes to mind is my muscles down the left side of my back, at the top of my shoulders and up the back of my neck. They feel like rocks and are tight and miserable. I am not sure if it is dystonia or not because I do not experience any writhing movements. Is Baclofen something that would help to loosen these muscles up? Thanks, Evonne

evonne, Great question. I had the same exact issue and the baclofen really helped me. It went up the right side of my spine and across my shoulders. Let me also ask, are you taking azelict? The reason i ask is that axilect can cause some joint pain very much like the issue you ate having. If you are not on axilect, I would ask your dr about baclofen. Best of health, Mark
