I am 42 and was diagnosed with PD 3 years ago. I have maintained a consistant dosage of Mirapex and Selegiline over the entire 3 years. (.5mg Mirapex 4 times /day)

Over the 3 years, the Mirapex corrected most of my physical symptoms while slowly altering my mental state.

This was brought to my attention recently when several events converged -

1. Starting 3 months ago, the Mirapex ceased to correct my physical symptoms.

2. 11 days ago, I started suffering from a kidney stone which I passed after 8 days (I'd rather be stabbed in the back with a rusty spike than go through that again). The doctor prescribed Lortab which I consumed in large quantities.

Since the Mirapex was not working and I did not want to mix Lortab and Mirapex, I quit taking the Mirapex (and Selegiline) 11 days ago.

This is what I noticed -

On Day 3 I regained mental clarity. I had no idea that my thinking processes had been altered so much (though my wife had been telling me). Mirapex is dangerous stuff.

On Day 4 I was completely without physical symptoms of PD (no limp, no double vision, no finger stiffness) for around 12 hours. This was during a lull in the kidney stone pain.

After passing the stone, I suffered from sweating, fever and stomach problems for 2 days. Today I feel much better. However, my PD physical symptoms are back. Fortunately, my mind remains clear.

My questions - Any idea if beginning a course of Lortab combined with a ceasation of Mirapex could have produced an equalibrium that would have "cured" the PD symptoms for a brief time?

Do you agree that I probably got through Mirapex withdrawal because of the Lortab?

Thanks

this is a very odd case. I believe that the lortsb acted as a CNS depressant and may have relaxed your muscles so that you did feel better. This may also have aided in the withdraw symptoms you would have experienced by going off the mirapex.
I am very glad your mind is better. That is why I always encourage patients to take their care giver to their appointments and let them speak to the dr.

Best of health,
