Hi Mark

I read that both meds help symptoms such as tremors and rigidity. If such, why do docs prescribe Amantadine over Benadryl? Also, can Benadryl (as a sleep aid) be taken long term??And can both Amantadine and Benedryl be taken together?

Thanks.

it has been shown that great doses of benadryl would have to be used in order to get the same effect of a lower dose of amantadine. also, that the drowsiness effect of the benadryl would far outway the "good" effect of the medication.

benadryl can be used long term if under the direct supervision of a physician. if it it used for sleep on a nightly basis, once it is stopped, it can cause severe insomnia in some patients.

best of health,
mark

and yes, both can be taken together since there mode of action is different.
