sinemet dosage

Hi Mark,

Quick question to clarify something... I often see/hear people refer to their sinemet dosage as 1200mg/day. A doctor at the YOPN conference this past year said that a daily intake of 1800mg was more than he prefers to see in a patient.

Since my partner's sinemet is a 25/100 pill, I have wondered - are these folks adding up the numerator or denominator? I've assumed the latter, but want to confirm so I know I am understanding what people are saying.

Thanks!

Hi Mark, I you ever heard of Sibu balance. I have PD and I take this drink. It is full of different kinds of vitamins. All natural made from the sea buck thorn berries. E-mail me if you have any questions about it.
desertcowboy@comcast.net I love this stuff. It helps me from being depressed and I usually only get sick like once a year. Thanks
John

Ottergrrl,

When we refer to 1,800 mg a day, you need to add up the bottom (denominator) of the dose.

Eg.
Sinemet 25/100 is:
25 mg carbidopa
100 mg levodopa

so, Sinemet 25/100 at 1 tablet 3 times a day is 300mg.

Hope that helps,
Mark

lv4,

Sinemt should work within a 1/2 hour to 1 hour after it is ingested. What may be happening is that the requip has the long term effect under control and the dose of Sinemet may have to be increased to take control for the immediate control of the tremors.

Please check with your physician before doing this. You may not need to increase all the Sinemet doses, maybe just certain times of the day.

Best of health,
Mark

Can I get an idea of other people's medication regime please? Trying to find out if mine seems like too much. Other than dystonia ( very bad, full-body episodes )....the other PD symptoms are very mild. The dystonia seizures are very bad, and seem to be getting more frequent and involving most anatomical sites. My Neuro gave me nothing for the pain, but my primary doc said take Lorazapam and or Cyclobenzaprin AS NEEDED. The Lorazapam is 1 mg (how much is too much in a seizure as described above?) and the muscle relaxant named above is a 10 mg pill. Again, how much is too much...self-medicating is tricky- but if youre twisted like a pretzel and can barely talk or breathe, all
youre thinking is....."make this go away!!" When its over, I can walk, run, do anything I usually do, with muscle aches ( minor ) like I worked out for 4 hours.
(hmmm, 'wonder if I'm burning calories??? Kidding.)

This post has two questions:
I want to compare the entire medication regime to mine...
And ask the Pharmacist about the quantity of reactive self-medication during a dystonia seizure.

My Regime

Sinimet 5 x a day........25/100, next dose 500/200...alternating, every six hours

Comtan 200 mgs 5 x a day

Azilect .05 mg 2 x a day

Amantadine HC 200 mg 1 x a day

Lorazapam and Cyclobenzaprin AS needed.

Provigil 100 mg 2 times a day.....(when I can spend that kind of $$)

thanks

Judi,

Everyone is different and what may work for you may not work for another. With that in mind, I don't belive it would be in anyone's best interest for me to comment on regime.

Hope you understnad,
Mark
