HI - This is probably not what you're looking for, but I wanted to respond. I have horrible, rotten teeth with major gum recession. I have spent thousands on gum surgery, crowns, and root canals. But, it's not a pd thing - I also have lupus. It's definitely a lupus thing. I don't think pd causes infectious things like advanced plaque formation, etc. Basically I have untold amts of plaque, not enough saliva, and no ability to stop decay, all related to lupus. But, if you were clenching your teeth or experiencing tremors in your jaw or biting down hard, I'm sure you would break a lot of teeth. I do clench my teeth together when I sleep. That came around the time of my pd dx. Also, when I drink from a glass, I almost always hit the glass on my 2 front teeth. My husband has been commenting on it for years. I think that's a pd thing and it may break my teeth. Time will tell.

Hi Carol - Lupus is actually a little tricky to dx, but not as difficult as pd. To dx lupus, there is a list of 11 symptoms. If you have 3 of them, you have lupus. The most definitive tests are the blood tests. They look for irregular antibodies in the blood and something called a positive ana. There are a few more things as well. You can look it up on the web. I was dx'd with lupus in 2001, and pd in 2007. Because of the lupus, I had a lot of extra tests to determine if I had pd or neurological lupus. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes your body to think it is constantly fighting infection. Your immune system is overactive. In the worst cases, your body will attack it's own organs. So, neurological lupus can present w/symptoms like pd, but it's really the lupus attacking your brain. Anyway, pd is actually better to have than lupus in your brain. Who knew?! Anyway, I have a very mild form of lupus (luckily) and I definitely have pd. Just the way my body reacts to the meds is proof enough. I doubt that you have lupus just because you have bad teeth. If you are interested in checking, you need to see a rheumatologist. You can ask me more about it if you'd like.
