Hi all, Can anyone tell me if they have experienced horribly sore hamstrings? Mine are always sore and ordinary activity during the day makes it worse; so bad that I can barely move and am incredibly uncomfortable after a short while. Even though my left side is supposedly my bad side, both hamstrings bother me equally. Now in the past week my left achilles tendon is sore as well; I think this hurts more than the hamstrings! AND, my left elbow (described in previous post) is also very sore. I don't think it is the joint, but the muscle around the elbow. Feels bruised to touch. It is too bizarre that I am having more left side issues... Could any of this be connected to Parkinson's? I have no diagnosis yet, seeing specialist soon. Lydia

Lydia, I do not have a 100% diagnosis either, but I thought that I should respond to your question about the elbow pain. My symptoms started out with all over stiffness and achiness...kind of like the flu. I felt horrible for months but the doctors couldn't figure anything out. Then I developed an action tremor and what I was later told was cogwheel rigidity. The worst symptom for me is the stiffness that I have in my upper back and my neck..still unresolved. Anyhow, as things progressed I developed a stiffness in my left elbow that was very painful. I was unable to straighten it out. I was actually told by the Rheumatologist that I had tendonitis. I questioned that though because it was my left elbow and I am right handed. I thought it was odd that it wasn't in my dominant elbow. I was also told that I had fibromyalgia but that didn't make sense to me either. Not all of my symptoms fit. Then, the same Rheumatologist told me that I had cogwheel rigidity and that cogwheel rigidity is most commonly associated with PD and recommended that I see a Neurologist. Long story short, I went to a Neurologist and he agreed that I had cogwheel rigidity(specific to PD) and started me on Requip. Within the first few weeks my elbow became less painful and I was able to straighten it out without being in pain anymore. I had a reaction to Requip and had to stop taking it, but I am on Mirapex and it has also alleviated my elbow pain. As far as I am concerned my elbow pain is PD related. If it weren't the meds would not have magically healed an elbow that was horribly stiff and painful for months. There is no other explanation in my case. I hope this helps you. Good luck getting the answers that you are looking for. Evonne

Evonne, Thanks for your help! I suspect that what I feel in elbow seems like tendonitis as well, but like you, in my non-dominant side. I wonder if once it starts hurting is the cogwheel rigidity noticeable (if that is what it is...). It hurts to straighten and bend elbow and to do anything requiring lifting-even if as light as a glass of water. I also feel ill as if with flu, I keep checking my temp-but nothing. I posted about that feeling here as well (a while ago) and some responded that when you deplete your dopamine you can feel ill-like (I apologize if I am not repeating that right). Right now my elbow and hamstrings are just killing me. I believe that I couldn't touch the floor or pick anything up from the floor if my life depended on it. Ouch! Lydia

That's funny, I have the same symptoms. I feel like someone hit me with a hammer in the back of my heels. If I push there, it feels permenantly bruised. Let me know if you find the cause. This started at the same time as my other PD symptoms.

OMG my left elbow it that way to. That's what started my journey. I to had a reaction to Requip and am now taking Mirapex my elbow still hurts sometimes but it's a lot better then before I can almost type fully with my left hand. Nice to know i'm not alone.

Hatteras and Lildebbie, can you guys elaborate (if you have time...) on how your symptoms started. Hatteras, what else did you feel in addition to the achilles soreness? And Lildebbie, was your beginning limited to the elbow; and did you notice any reduced arm swing around the same time (I notice that every now and then, but it is definitely when the elbow is hurting. I suspect I am deliberately not swinging it because it hurts to do so). I am not sure when my soreness issues actually started; it was a gradual feeling of being wiped out while teaching. It took me a while to realize I felt bad because I was sore. Then it took me a while to realize the soreness was originating in the hamstrings (when your hamstrings hurt as much as mine do, you tend to feel bad all over!). All of the above took anywhere from 9-12 months to develop, with the current status being that the hamstring soreness is pretty bad and causing some misery. The elbow happened about a month ago and the achilles thing is brand new. I just don't know if these are separate unrelated things or if they are connected to a possible Parkinson's situation, hence my questions as I attempt to sort it all out! Thank you everyone for reading and responding- Lydia

Lydia mine all started when i noticed my left leg was getting skinner and my left arm was always in the sling postiton. Please excuse my spelling. I went to a nero and was told it was fibromialiga and was given Lyrcia which i had a real bad reaction to. So i went to another nero and he did a lot of blood work that came back with hyperthroyid so they removed my thyroid, thought it would cure everything when it didn't he said parkinson and put me on Requip. i took that for 5 weeks and started having problems with my sight, and my numbness in my face. So to the 3rd nero, left arm swing, balance issues, i couldn't use my left hand for anything, my feet hurt so bad, even when i slept, my face was very unemotional, i thought it was because i was in so much pain now i'm taking Mirapex sence Aug 08 and things seem to be improving not a fast as i'd like but they are improving. I'm also going to a movement disorder center which you might want to do they know what there doing. Oh i'm 49 yrs old with a dx in Nov 07. If you need to know anything else let me know i'm on DBL going on 2 months and i am so bored.

I started getting pain in my right achilles tendant. I went to the Dr and he said you strained it. I then started getting hamstring pain. This is in both my legs. Especially sore when I walk on the treadmill. I was later diagnosed with PD but the pain in my lower legs persists.

This is to weird, does anyone know if this is from parkinson's. Or could this be a heart condition or from the mirapex.

So this IS interesting....I am not on any medication by the way, so my soreness can't be a side effect of meds. Lildebbie-what is DBL? And are you around Syracuse? Lildeb and Hatteras-thank you both for elaborating further! We are similar, don't know what to make of it though! Lydia

Lydia, DBL is disability "short term" my new Dr pulled me out of work until she has me on the right meds. No I'm not in Syracues I live in Saratoga, NY thats more towards the Adirondacks. I've only been on meds for 2 1/2 months and like I said they seem to be working. Not yesterday or this morning. My legs hurt so bad in the back of my calf's like they are burning and I think I slept about 2 hours last night. Calling Dr today. Good luck to you. Hey go to your local library and take out "The Parkinson's Disease Treatment Book by J. Eric Ahlskog, MD" it's great.

I too have muscel that feel bruised. It was attributed to Fibro and I was also prescribed Lyrica. But my lower leg pain has come back. My dr. and I are still looking for a solution.
