The effect of stress on my PWP is huge. The more stress, the worse he feels and the worse his symptoms get. The good thing is that if he can reduce his stress level, he feels better and his symptoms improve (he still obviously has PD, though). The bad thing is that what constitutes stress for him and impacts his health is a much lower level of stress than what may affect me, if that makes sense. For example, driving in heavy traffic is tense for me but I can deal and once I'm out of the situation, its gone from my mind/body. Whereas for my PWP, even being in a car driven by someone else in heavy traffic completely wipes him out - it exhausts him, makes his symptoms worse, etc. and will affect him for the rest of the day. But if we can keep his stress down, he's pretty good (for someone w/PD).

Stress is a huge negative.

Any kind of stress. Teenaged angst makes me worse. Traffic stress as someone mentioned, being late, etc.

I'm a student taking a heavy courseload and I feel the stress worsen my symptoms. I actually took a stress management class as part of my health science minor last semester and some of the advice I gleaned from that class has helped me a lot.

I have found that in my family, a big stressful event occured just before the onset of Parkinson's Disease. With my great grandpa and my great great grandpa it was a car wreck. With my uncle and my mom it was other illness'. With me it was a bad childhood.

I agree - stress is a big factor. I used to be kind of type A and I worked a lot of hours at a job which required too much travel. As a result I ended up with terrible sinus disease. This constant sinus infection is probably the trigger for my lupus. All of this may have contributed to my pd dx at age 38. Who knows? I do know that my symptoms are worse when I stressed out or under time pressure. Michelle
