I have been recently dx'd in March '08. The doctor started me on Amantadine 100mg and Mirapex. I stepped up from .125mg to 1.0mg over four weeks. At first, I experienced daytime sleepiness at random times and headaches. This stopped the fourth week when I was at 1.0mg, then insomnia started soon after. When insomnia started I thought it was stress related due to my job (construction project manager), but now I am losing 4-5 hours sleep a night. Due to little sleep at night, daytime sleepiness is increasing and has affected my attention. I used to be able to sleep through storms. My question- is the insomnia short-term or longer? Is this a common side effect and does anything help to offset it?

I've never been able to figure out how much of this is from PD itself and how much is from meds. I take otc benadryl religiously, and I'm often able to get a good night's sleep. You might want to try that out. Good luck!

I have been on Mirapex since around 1/07...insomnia can be a problem at times. But like previous message, benadryl helps when needed. Good luck.
