Brenda: There has been a generic for Sinemet (carbodopa/levadopa) since I first took it - let's see - some 6 or 7 years ago now. A good place to buy meds if you aren't in an Rx program is Costco - their markup on generics is minimal compared to any other retailer, and you don't have to join to use their pharmacy (just tell them that's what you want at the door). Now, I don't believe that Stalevo has a generic out yet (it's carbodopa/levadopa in a different proportion, with Comtan thrown in). Any pharmacist should be able to give you a generic Sinemet, unless your neurologist writes the Rx as "DAW" - "dispense as written"; you can ask him or her NOT to do that if that's the case. Now, the FDA allows generics to approximate the strength of the brand name, usually as much as + or - 25% - but sinemet is not what I'd consider a 'precision' medication. Hope this helps. Mark
