the "official" occurance of depression with PD is tagged at around 40-60%; many of us would argue it is much higher. It is complicated, and requires specific attention because, as with the PD itself, depression is an expression of each individual - situational, behavioral, emotional, and biological. You might benefit from a combination of drug therapy and counseling. I have been on effexor for 6 years, and have experienced no negative side effects - in fact, it, along with counseling, has probably saved my life.
Dr. Laura Marsh is doing ground-breaking research in depression and PD at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore; many Formicans are enrolled in her longitudinal study.
